COHAD-Uganda is a children and women centered indigenous not for profit, non-political, non-governmental organization founded by a group of former humanitarian workers in West Nile region since November 2017. It is legally registered with Adjumani district Local government as Community Based Organisation (CBO), the national NGO Bureau as an indigenous organization and incorporated by the Uganda Registration Service Bureau.
COHAD seeks to ensure that every child attains their full potential through provision of child centred services in many areas of protection, inclusion, land rights and property ownership rights, peace building, gender/GBV, food security & livelihood, education, psychosocial mental health, Nutrition, and sustainable environmental management (WASH).
It has a strong background in working with rural communities and interfacing with local government and other national and international development agencies including Office of the Prime Minister among others.
This collaborative and partnership approach with intensive research, continuous learning and sharing best practices and lessons learned has enhanced and strengthened capacity of COHAD. It has a wide range of local networks and positions itself as an indigenous entity endowed with knowledge and experience on the socio-economic and geographical landscape of West Nile region.
(i) To create facilities and opportunities to strengthen community-based capacities for child protection
(ii) To facilitate efforts towards reduction of all forms of vulnerabilities to hunger, malnutrition, malaria including poverty-generated suffering
(iii) To provide facilities including opportunities for enhancing children’s performance in basic education
(iv) To provide health and psychosocial mental health support to population in crisis.
(v) To provide technical support towards achieving sustainable use of the environmental resources.
