Child Protection

Under child protection, the organization is involved in extensive community sensitization meetings among the refugee and host communities on child rights, rehabilitation of children affected by violence through psychosocial counseling and scholastic materials provided for their safe return to schools, Contextualized training guides for prevention of school-based violence against children in Uganda including Country wide consultation on review of SBVP materials.

In implementing this child protection component,18 meetings conducted and a total of 1000 individuals reached and sensitized, 50 VACIS affected Girls and PWDs supported to safely return to school after covid 19, Nine (9) curriculum guides were reviewed and contextualized for CFI Uganda and a country wide consultative meeting conducted with 30 participants to review SBVP materials.

Education

Under education component, COHAD provided hygiene and scholastic materials to school going refugee and host population, psychosocial and material support to VACIS affected households/families and School based violence prevention training was contextualized. A total of 50 girls and PWDs were supported to return to schools, 62 VACIS affected families supported with cash Grants to start IGAs to sustain the education of their children and a total of Nine (9) SBVP manuals were contextualized and in use by CFI Uganda. COHAD participated in the curriculum contextualisation for ChidFund Uganda. Picture 2 below illustrates one of such stakeholder’s curriculum contextualisation workshops conducted in Jinja.

Food Security , Nutrition, and Livelihoods

In order to improve on food security, nutrition, and livelihoods of the refugees and host communities, COHAD provided cash assistance to female houeshold heads, Income generation activities start up materials /cash to youth groups in refugee and host communities ,conducted technical training on management of selected IGAs, VSLA methodology , VSLA toolkits to refugee and host population and conducted Group Dynamics to Youth groups.

COHAD trains and supports both Men and women in the formation and management of VSLA as shown in Picture 3 below.

A total of 300 VSLA members were trained on basic skills of VSLA concepts and record keeping techniques, Eight (8) VSLA groups received assorted VSLA toolkits and a total of 8 youth groups comprising of 220 individual youths were trained on leadership skills and group development.
In order to improve on food security, nutrition and livelihoods of the refugees and host communities, COHAD provided cash assistance to female houeshold heads, Income generation activities, start up materials /cash to youth groups in refugee and host communities ,conducted technical training on management of selected IGAs. Picture 4 illustrates some of the cash grant support extended to teenage mothers to start small scale enterprises

In summary, under food security, nutrition and livelihoods, COHAD prides itself  in having ssupported female household heads with cash Grants to implement their household IGA Action plans and a total of eight (8) youth groups comprising of a total of 200 members supported with various IGAs including livestock, saloon, butchery, and phone charging enterprises.

They have also trained a total of 200 individual youths in Goat rearing, piggery, and butchery management techniques, while others were trained on business management skills to operate saloon and phone charging services. A total of 300 VSLA members were trained on basic skills of VSLA concepts and record keeping techniques, eight (8) VSLA groups received assorted VSLA toolkits and a total of 8 youth groups comprising of 220 individual youths were trained on leadership skills and group development

Psychosocial and health/HIV

COHAD supports psycho-social counseling for victims of violence against children in and around schools, conducted community out-reach on HIV/Aids. So far 42 adolescent girls and PWDs have been supported and rehabilitated through counseling to return to schools and A total of 4 community outreach meetings were conducted to educate the masses on HIV/Aids including the available supporting mechanisms for positive living.

Environmental Resources and WASH

COHAD is involved in advocacy for environmental protection, Sensitization of the community on tree planting and protection of nature and provision of training on construction and use of energy saving stoves.  COHAD boasts of its success in participating in group advocacy work against illegal logging and depletion of natural resources, sensitization of the community on tree planting and protection of nature with a total 4 group trainings conducted to training women on construction and use of energy saving stoves.
